An entry level 4 Star Hotel Resort located in Jebel Akhdar, consisting of 254 keys, comprising 208no.  36.5m2 Chalets, built in blocks of 4no, 45 Hotel Suites ranging from 140m2, 3 bed apartments, to 37m2 Studio apartments, 3no. Restaurants, Spa & Gymnasium, Covered Souk Areas & 200m2 Supermarket Shop, Ball Room, Business Centre, Adventure Park with 150m zip lines, a Large Swimming Pool and four further Wadi feature Rock Pools, all situated on a 83,364m2 plot including the additional 20,000m2 car parking land to the front of the Site Entrance. Dusit D2, have been appointed as the Hotel Operator.

 MEC are appointed as Client’s Representative to assist and advise the Client on all pre & post contract obligations, project & cost management, contract management, monthly reports and cost advice on Value Engineering for the project.

 The contract is a modified 1987 (reprinted 1992) FIDIC to be lump sum, using a Two Stage Tendering process. Contract value is approx 20 million. Considerable value engineering exercises were carried out to achieve the Contract Sum.

This major hotel, in the centre of Muscat, comprises 280 rooms/suites, a business centre, three restaurants  (John Barry Bar, Copacabana Nightclub, Club Safari Bar), the Afrah Ballroom and comprehensive sports facilities.

MEC were brought in and took responsibility for cost control and commercial management on this project following the initial abortive start on the structure.  This comprised package procurement for all works including demolition of part of the existing structure, MEP services, decoration and full FE&E, OSE items.  We also provided full assistance to the owner during a formal contractual dispute.

Contract is a modified 1987 (reprinted 1992) FIDIC to be lump sum using a two stage tendering process. Value engineering generated savings of RO 3 million, reducing the contract value from 20 million to RO 17 million. A significant number of value engineering workshops & exercises were carried out to achieve this reduction.

Kempinski Hotel

New build 310 guest room, 5 star hotel with diverse food & beverage outlets, leisure amenities, ballrooms and meeting venues together with extensive external work including beach work. MEC provided a comprehensive post contract cost management service, including cost reporting, control of variations, ongoing contract management, monthly valuations and cost advice on Value Engineering options for the project.

The contract, as awarded, is a heavily modified 1987 (reprinted 1992) FIDIC lump sum. Contract was value engineered from 63 million down to 55 million. Considerable VE exercises were carried out to achieve this, additionally there was an enabling works package let, that enabled more time for the award of the main works to be developed and refined.
